Marijuana Worsens Depression in High Doses

Author: adbrown
Marihuana is a potent antidepressant in low does, but worsens symptoms in high venereal infections , granting to a new study.

THC , the active ingredient in marijuana , increases serotonin when smoked in low venereal infections , similar to SSRI antidepressant drugs, such as Prozac , according to researchers from McGill University and Le Centre de Recherche Fernand Seguin of Hpital in Quebec and l'Universit de Montral in Montreal.

But at higher social diseases , the outcome turns itself and can actually exacerbate imprint and other psychiatric conditions like psychosis.

During the study, printed in the October 24 event of The Diary of Neuroscience, science lab rats were injected with the synthetic cannabinoid WIN55,212-2 and then screened with the Forced Swim test a trial to measure imprint in creatures .

The investigators discovered an antidepressant consequence of cannabinoids and an increased action in the neurons that create 5 hydroxytryptamine. Nevertheless , increasing the cannabinoid Venus's curse beyond a set point completely undid the benefits, said Dr. Gabriella Gobbi of McGill University and Le Centre de Recherche Fernand Seguin of Hpital Louis-H. Lafontaine.

"So we really attested a forked outcome : At blue social diseases it increases serotonin , but at higher venereal diseases the consequence is ravaging , wholly changed by reversal ," she pronounced in a news tone ending.

The antidepressant and intoxicating results of ganjas are due to its chemical substance similarity to natural substances in the head known as "endo-cannabinoids," which are ejected under statuses of high tension or pain , said Gobbi. They interact with the head through body structures sent for cannabinoid CB1 receptors .

The study marched that these sense organs have a direct impression on the cells getting 5 hydroxytryptamine, which is a neurotransmitter that regulates the mode , she said.

Because controlling the dosage of natural marihuana is hard peculiarly when it is smoked in the form of cannabis joints using it directly as an antidepressant drug would be hard, enunciated the research workers .

"Excessive marihuana exercise in peoples with depressive disorder positions high hazard of psychosis," said Gobbi.

Gobbi and her fellows are concentrating their enquiry on a new class of drugs which enhance the results of the brain's natural endo-cannabinoids.

Serious Seeds

Author: Amos Branden

The cannabis seeds market has seen the rise of several seed companies over the years. However, not all of them provide their customers with high quality seeds. Serious Seeds is one company that doesn't disappoint when it comes to great seeds, which have proven equally satisfying for growers as well as smokers. True to its name, the company is very serious about it's commitment to quality and good service.

Serious Seeds, has only five strains on offer. However, these are the some of the best available in the world today. The small firm has been concentrating on quality over quantity in the last couple of decades; and has actively produced consistently stable and high quality cannabis seed. These seeds guarantee a great smoke and complete customer satisfaction.

Reliable and independent lab tests conducted by different Cannabis foundations have also discovered that the seed strains on offer from ‘Serious' produce some of the most robust plants in the world. They are attributed with the highest THC of about 18-22% as well. These tests were done on the same seed strains as those distributed to clients.

Serious seeds have also produced some of the best F1 hybrids by crossing stable strains. These seeds, guarantee good germination as well as a consistently productive plant. The seeds, themselves are produced in small quantity to ensure quality and are always handpicked and fresh.

Every seed batch produced by Serious is also tested for germination rate as well as uniformity, of the resulting plants; before releasing the same for sale. As a result, all bags of the company are marked, as evidence of quality check. Customers can use the original package and number to get in touch with the firm, in case of any issues with the seed.

One of the greatest reasons behind the success of Serious, is simply the driving need to find and develop new plants that provide pure smoking pleasure. And the plants are not simply produced for the clients, but also the owners and employees themselves; who enjoy a good smoke as much as anyone else.

The F1 hybrids on offer from Serious are the first generation offspring of two different and usually unrelated cannabis strains. The resulting plant is short and bushy; with broad leaves. It usually takes less time to flower, as compared to its other counterparts.

Some of these may even be used to treat certain groups of patients. Most of these medicinal strains usually have a high concentration of THC's along with other cannabinoids. The seeds also produce plants that provide a better smoking effect.

One of the most prominent seed offered by Serious is the Ak-47. It was so named, because it's considered a one hit wonder that can knock you out with a simple puff. This exclusive seeds has gained more popularity by word of mouth, than others, that have been covered by marijuana journals and other press.

However, beware of other seed companies that masquerade their own sub par strains as Ak-47's. The original Ak-47 is a product of Serious Seeds and a highly specialized one at that.

How to Pass THC Urine Drug Test

Author: Lidia Smith

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is found in the Marijuana - Cannabis plant and is considered a psychoactive substance. U.S. employers have got a practice of carrying out a THC urine test when they plan to hire someone. This is one of the compulsory job tests used in America and as long as it is one of the cheapest, it is used pretty frequently.

The procedure represents the process of mixing of urine specimen with a particular chemical or dipping a chemical colored strip into urine sample. Sometimes, urine sample is examined more precisely with the help of other testing devices.

National Institute on Drug Abuse, or NIDA, states 50 nanograms of THC metabolites per milliliter as "presumptive positive". Consequently, a person undergoing the test is not really expected to have absolutely clean urine; rather, his/her THC metabolites amount in the urine should not exceed 50 ng/ml.

The question how long THC can be detected in the urine is pretty controversial. The whole thing depends on different factors and, all in all, it is very individual. Everything staring from a person's age, weight, etc. and ending with the type of pot you smoked influences the period. Generally, those people who are not in the habit of smoking and have got fast metabolism are expected to have the shortest detection period. It marijuana is only occasional treat, less than a week is needed for the urine to become clean. Conversely, chronic users are expected to have the longest detection period.

The best advice for any person to learn his/her detection period is to buy home drug test kit and carry out the test every day until the result will be negative. This is the surest way to know what a person's individual detection period is. There is no use to take friends' and acquaintances' experience for granted. As it has been aforementioned, everyone's organism is different and so is the detection period.

The best advice for those who smoke marijuana and is expecting a test is to quit smoking at once. It is only beneficial if you stop as early as possible - more chances to pass the test successfully.

However, if time is little, there are some ways to avoid detection on the test. The first method is to use synthetic urine instead of your own. However, it is only a good way out, provided that you do the test unsupervised. Moreover, there are also other complications such as appropriate temperature of the fresh urine that somehow should be reached; and the presence in the urine of blood particles of the person tested is also something that cannot be invented. Thus, it is a very risky affair to try passing the test by using a substitute. However, in some cases it is the only option for passing the test more or less possible.

The second to avoid detection is to start detox program. It means that you need to cleanse your system with a lot of fluid in order to remove toxins from the body with urine.

You should also start exercising more as exercises burns fat and releases THC that tend to store in fat cells, therefore, cleansing your system.

The next important part of detox plan is proper eating. It is recommended to include more products that increase creatinine levels, such as red meat, in order to keep the urine creatinine levels high. This is important when you plan to pass the test having previously drunk a lot of fluid. Low creatinine levels will show it, and even if a lab test is not considered positive, your sample is likely to be rejected and you are risking with your employment prospective.

If you didn't smoke too much pot recently special detox products might help you pass a drug test. Urine luck is a very effective solution to this problem.

Clean Green Certified Is Like USDA Organic For Marijuana

Author: Janis Jagiello

Gone are the days when you had no idea where your pot--we mean, your friend's pot--came from or how it was grown. Now the organically conscious smoker can get the cleanest, greenest weed. The USDA Organic seal of approval has long reassured health and environmentally conscious consumers that their produce is free of genetically modified ingredients, antibiotics, and synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, among other things. But while fruit and vegetable consumers can use the organic label to differentiate between products, consumers of another popular plant--marijuana--don't have that luxury. That's why Chris Van Hook, a lawyer and USDA accredited organic certifier, started the Clean Green Certified program.

The initiative, which began in 2004, uses all the same procedures and protocols as the national organic program. "If the USDA were to say tomorrow that you can get cannabis certified as organic, everyone who is Clean Green Certified could roll right in," says Van Hook.

Growers have to be in compliance with local and state laws, and they have to jump through a number of hoops: a 300 pesticide soil sample test (sent to a federally licensed agricultural lab), a thorough review of crop inputs (i.e. natural pesticides) and a standard agricultural inspection to make sure that plants are disease and mold-free.

As of this year, growers also need to have a carbon footprint reduction plan in place--because as we have noted previously, the cannabis industry uses a huge amount of energy. For an indoor grower, a reduction plan may mean switching to CFL bulbs, solar panels, and recycling potted soils. Outdoor growers can cut down on their footprint by ensuring that their plants are of a high enough quality to make it to market. Otherwise, they may lose a significant amount of their crops to spoilage and mildew--and that means more energy goes into growing a fewer amount of usable plants.

According to Van Hook, this is the only certification program of its kind. The whole thing costs $2,000 annually for a grower, but Van Hook maintains that it's worth it, at least partially because it differentiates growers from their competition. "If you're handling uncertified cannabis, you have no idea when you buy it if it's illegally grown on national forests or if it's cartel cannabis," he says. "In this oversupplied market, a lot of growers are looking for a way to bolster their own compliance and differentiate their product in the marketplace."

So far, Clean Green certifies about 60 growers each year, and the number is growing fast. Clean Green growers are also quickly becoming noticed; for the second year in a row, a Clean Green Certified strain took the top prize in the High Times Medical Cannabis Cup--a big deal in the industry.

The certification initiative is only operational in California at the moment, but Van Hook has plans to expand. With new states quickly approving medical marijuana laws (New Jersey just gave the go-ahead this week), it's likely that there will be plenty of growers--and customers--demanding his services in the near future.

Drug Addiction Information for Parents

Author: Christopher Evans
Friends and families of substance misusers / drug addicts are often faced with a situation they feel totally unprepared to cope with. This begins with a basic lack of information on drug and alcohol awareness issues. This results in drug addiction being often misunderstood and even more difficult to cope with.

Parents may be too afraid to seek help, deterred by the stigma of having a drug user in the family and worrying about what people will think of them. There are also serious concerns because their son or daughter is breaking the law, potentially facing exclusion from school and sometimes even facing charges of possession and / or supply of an illegal drug. These things can make it seem impossible to approach the authorities to gain the professional help they need for fear of the legal implications.

David Blunkett formally the UK Home Secretary, in 2003 launched a two year anti-stigma campaign. This was intended to help dispel shame and embarrassment which may be experienced by families of drug users and addicts which can prevent the access of the advice and support needed.

The Government's Strategy on Drugs aims to encompass not just those with the drug addiction problem, but the families and relations of drug users too- the 'forgotten victims of drug abuse'. This is delivered by providing services for carers and parents. Part of this campaign was the introduction of FRANK, an independent Government funded drugs helpline which replaced the National Drugs Helpline.

In a seven month period in 2007, the total number of calls made to FRANK was 26,059 which is an average of over 120 calls per day, illustrating the obvious public need for further information on drug and alcohol abuse / addiction.

A breakdown of the calls made to FRANK show that the drug which was the subject of the most calls was Cannabis / Marijuana, totalling 6617 calls which represents just over 25 percent of the total number of calls within the period. According to statistics, this is the most widely taken illegal drug in schools. This was closely followed by Cocaine totalling 5728 calls at just under 22 percent of the total call volume.

At the other end of the scale, the two drugs receiving the fewest calls were Viagra, attracting 11 calls and Khat, (a herbal stimulant which is legal within the UK, although illegal in many countries including the USA) attracting 6 calls.

Although alcohol abuse and binge-drinking is an increasing problem in society, calls regarding this only accounted for 2.92 percent of the calls.

Friends of Drug users or parents concerned about their children, can access advice immediately regarding every aspect of drug and alcohol addiction anonymously and in the strictest of confidence.

The free and confidential FRANK helpline, also found online at www.talktofrank.com, aims to support families as well as users and contains an A - Z of drugs, FAQ sections, details of where to find support, etc. Drug-Aware were recently added to the talktofrank database as a useful resource for their website visitors. Visit our listing which is on talktofrank.

For further help advice and support:

In the UK, call Talk To Frank, the Government funded drugs / alcohol helpline on 0800 77 66 00 or http://www.talktofrank.com

In the USA, call Addiction Search toll free on 1-800-559-9503 or http://www.addictionsearch.com for someone to help and assist you in the right direction.

Some parents may choose to purchase home drug tests as the first step towards regaining some control over their child's drug and alcohol abuse / addiction.

Drug Addiction: Drug Testing Children or Teenagers

Someone recently asked what my position was on drug testing children / teenagers. Here is a brief version of my answer.

Based on the latest statistics most people who start using drugs do so in their early teens. Incredibly, the average starting age for heroin in many cities throughout the United Kingdom is only 15 years old. A survey of over 20,000 school children showed 9% of 13 year olds and 27% (over a quarter!) of 15 year olds had used illegal drugs at some time or another.

So should a quarter of parents wait until their 15 year old children are already doing drugs or are addicted before taking any action?

Testing gets all of the cards on the table and opens up communication - showing that you are looking out for them and offering them a valid excuse when faced by peer pressure to take drugs.

I personally went through my late teens working in a forensics lab and my regular employee drug testing helped me avoid the numerous offers of drugs I received from friends of friends and when out socialising - all without losing any credibility, etc.

Different Types of Drug Test

Author: Dominique Rutherford

A drug is any substance that, when absorbed into the body, changes normal bodily function. In pharmacology, it is “a chemical substance used in the treatment, diagnosis, cure, or prevention of disease or otherwise it is used to augment physical or mental well-being”. Drugs may be prescribed for a limited duration or on a regular basis for chronic disorders. There are also some drugs that can cause habituation and addiction. Drugs can be managed in a number of ways whether it’s recreational or medicinal one by means of technical examination of whether urine, sweat, blood, oral fluid, or even hair samples. This is referred to as drug test or drug screening. It determine the presence neither the absence of specified drugs nor even their metabolized traces.

There are primary types of drug tests: urine, blood, hair, saliva and sweat. The most common is the urine test which has the benefit of being inexpensive and less intrusive than the blood test.

  • Urine Tests are the least expensive of the test methods and are considered as an intrusive method of testing. These can be done at home though need lab verification for accurate results. Also, detect use primarily within the past week (longer with regular use) that can be affected by abstaining from use for a period of time before the test. These tests are often temperature tested too to assure sample integrity.
  • Saliva Tests are a little more expensive than the urine testing, but less than hair or blood tests and considered a relatively undisturbing process of drug testing. These are becoming more common because these kinds of test are easy to manage but require lab processing to guarantee accuracy. One can detect use first and foremost within the past few days and can detect more recent use than other testing methods. Such tests also have no nationally accepted standards or cut off concentrations for detection, making results greatly reliant on the specific product purchased. This could also make results less-reliable or acceptable for legal cases. Not to mention such tests are more reliable for detection of Methamphetamine, Opiates and less reliable for THC or Cannabinoids.
  • Hair Tests are currently several times more costly than the urine tests and considered a relatively unintrusive manner of drug testing. These detect substance use over a longer period and do not usually identify use within the past week. Drugs, such as opiates (codeine, morphine, heroin) lay down on the hair shaft very tightly and are shown not to migrate along the shaft, thus, if a long segment of hair is available one can draw some "relative" conclusions about when the use occurred. However cocaine, although very easy to detect, is able to drift along the shaft; making it very difficult to determine when the drug was used and for how long.
  • Blood Tests are the most expensive and common way of testing among the rest. Not to mention that these are the most meddling method of testing and most accurate one.
  • Sweat (Patch) Tests are deemed relatively intrusive means of drug testing because these require the wearing of a patch for an extended period of time. They are controversial in terms of accuracy for some reason to consider that surface contamination (such as cannabis smoke) can cause a false reading. Also, such tests can detect use which would not prompt other tests. Because of the short detection period for many drugs in urine, single use of many drugs longer than a week prior to using the patch will not cause a positive urine test. Since the skin patches are gathering sweat over an extended period of time, it is possible that any use during that time will turn out a positive outcome.

Drug testing on the spot or in the lab

Author: Adam

Drug testing takes place in two different ways - point of care testing or laboratory testing.

The latter is the most common method for most commercial or routine drug testing, as laboratory testing has little to no set-up time or costs as it makes use of an existing facility. It also allows for much faster processing of samples for mass screening for drug abuse, such as during employee screening, as well as access to the widest range of testing methods and toxicology reports.

Point of care testing on the other hand offers less extensive options and is only really suitable for individual testing but has the advantage of a quick turnaround. This kind of testing is carried out immediately after a sample is provided by an individual and can take place beside or near them. All point of care testing is conducted via portable kits that range in size and capability - it could either be something as tiny as a breathalyser device or a more complex urine or oral fluid testing kit.

Whilst a laboratory set up can test any kind of sample for any substance, point of care testing is a little more limited. Hair samples for example may give the best indication of drug or substance abuse over more extended periods of time but they cannot be tested on the spot.

Still, the ability to detect substance abuse within minutes or even seconds of taking a sample can be incredibly useful. In particular, this type of testing is a powerful tool for law enforcement agencies as well as for employers looking to find evidence of employees working under the influence.

The speed of point of care testing means that a quick quideline ‘screen' can be obtained as to whether or not someone has taken drugs or alcohol recently and thereby rendered themselves negligent for tasks such as driving or operating heavy machinery. Conversely, the nature of lab testing means that it will typically take a couple of days (up to a week for hair samples) to ascertain the results of a screened and confirmed test, able to stand up to legal challenges if required.

Police and law enforcement agencies are above and beyond the most common users of point of care tests. Aside from the commonly used breathalyser kit, some police forces also use more sophisticated drug testing kits which can often screen for drugs including amphetamines, methadone, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy and heroin. Beyond the kits aimed at identifying drug use, some kits are aimed at identifying drugs themselves - clarifying whether solids such as powders or liquid solutions suspected of being drugs are the real thing.

Denver Medical Marijuana

Author: johnwriter

Medical marijuana also known as medical cannabis is obtained from parts of the plant cannabis. This is used sometimes in herbal therapy recommended by physicians in both herbal and clinical purposes. But it should never be taken without consulting the doctor as it is a very dangerous drug and can cause severe illness on prolonged exposure.

The drug finds is use in medicines from as earlier as 2nd millennium B.C. and the modern world has found synthetic manufacture of the drug for medical purposes. There are a number of diseases treated by medical marijuana namely insomnia, appetite loss, neutrogenic pain, premenstrual syndrome, asthma, Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, bowel disease, depression, epilepsy, alcohol abuse etc. It is also used as a symptom reliever for the after effects of chemotherapy and injuries to spinal cord.

Even though very useful in medical purposes, marijuana when smoked with cigarettes increases the chances of lung cancer and fatigue which can lead to deaths. Due to the misuse of the drug several countries including United States of America has limited the use of marijuana to only a certain extent and strictly under prescription.

As per the statement approved by the department of Justice of US in 1988, all the medicines are stated to have been found to have lethal and negative effects but marijuana has no records in the medical history of possessing any fatal effects on use thus it cannot include a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity. Even though there has not been any official deaths caused by marijuana, but over 200 deaths are suspected to be caused by this product but it's not clinically proven.

Smoking marijuana however has proved to have a positive effect on diseases like Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. With lab experiments done on labs, marijuana has proven to be an effective anti-depressant, but when tested in humans, the case was not seen so. Even though the smokers did acknowledge that their moods have turned better but the chances of Schizophrenia has also increased the same amount showing that it might very well be related to the use of marijuana.

There are many chemists in Denver selling medical marijuana and other synthetic cannabinoids products and drugs but only under strict prescription from a qualified physician. A company in Colorado has the record of helping thousands of people with the medical marijuana application and also sees a doctor specialized in medical marijuana.
